‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’ is a phrase we all know. HGS Interactive has started taking this phrase rather seriously and has been incorporating some fun and fitness into the lives of its employees, transforming for an hour into a completely different zone on Fridays. The past two Fridays have seen employees indulge in a lot of fun shout-outs, shimmying to peppy, upbeat music during Bellyfit and Zumba sessions – both extremely intense and full-body workouts.

On one Friday, an hour was dedicated to a session of Bellyfit, which was exclusively for women, replete with pelvic movements and breathing techniques, focusing both on the body and the mind. Conducted by Chaitali Soparkar, there is also a prenatal Bellyfit course that is designed for moms-to-be, keeping their special needs in mind.
On the other Friday, an hour-long session of Zumba was conducted for both men and women by Sucheta Pal’s team. Sucheta Pal is the brand ambassador of Zumba in India and has trained 3,500 instructors. She holds master classes in the United States, Middle East, South East Asia and Europe.

Zumba works as a great alternative to the gym as it involves dancing, squats and other workouts, taking care of every muscle of the body and helping one sweat out and burn calories in a livelier way!
It is important that organizations realize how crucial the health of its employees are. Most individuals lead unhealthy lifestyles with lack of exercise or sleep and also indulge in excessive drinking and smoking. Not just that, sitting for hours in one place, glued to the desktop or laptop feeding data in Excel sheets or making lengthy PowerPoint slides can take a toll on the body and mind of individuals if they do not move around and exercise their bodies. Thus, it is imperative that organisations bring out their humane side and create a conducive work environment for their employees.
Standing desks have become quite popular lately and there are several articles online with studies showing how it boosts productivity. The bottom line is that healthy and happy employees tend to be more productive and can directly impact the growth and success of the organisation they work for.
Sometimes, all the employees need is a little motivation to get the ball rolling and fitness activities like Bellyfit or Zumba can do the trick. Not just fitness, it is also a great way to build a sense of camaraderie among co-workers and indulge in activities beyond work. It is high time all organisations in India take note of this and work towards making their employees happy and healthy!
